Mechatronics Workshop – July, 2011
Mechatronics is a differentiating practice for Mahindra Satyam Integrated Engineering Solutions (IES). Mechatronics has gained a lot of significance in recent years due to high demand on system performance. It makes the products more intelligent, efficient, safer and cost-effective. Mechatronics being a synergistic integration of mechanical, electrical systems, electronics and computation, finds applications across industries such as aerospace & defense, automotive, industrial equipment & machinery, consumer products, medical devices.
To reinforce its thought leadership, IES in association with IEEE PES India Chapter organized a one-day workshop on Mechatronics on 12th July, 2011 at Mahindra Satyam Development Center, Bangalore to bring together industry experts, academia and senior customer representatives and provide a platform to discuss and exchange the latest trends, technologies and challenges in this industry.
Invited speakers delivered talks on areas like mechatronics sub-systems such as sensors, actuators, drives and their integration challenges, mechatronics applications in nano air vehicles (NAV), micro-controllers, automotive, industrial and energy sectors. There was also a panel discussion with industry experts on “mechatronics driving next generation of product realization for human endeavor”.

Presentations made by industry experts and customer representatives were well received by the participants. The event provided a great opportunity for Mahindra Satyam (IES) associates to gain knowledge from the experts and demonstrate their competency to the industry in Mechatronics practice.
During the workshop, there was a formal announcement on the launch of 2nd annual Mahindra Satyam Young Engineer Awards in Aerospace and Mechatronics categories. Mahindra Satyam Entry-level Engineering Development (MSEED)
Mahindra Satyam IES has started a unique training program called Mahindra Satyam Entry-level Engineering Development(SEED) to build the required competency quality and scale. The objective of this training program is to shrink the grooming time of an engineering graduate by offering customized training programs that can yield faster results.
The training program is covered by eminent faculty from premier engineering institutes, industry experts reinforcing the design basics with application examples, followed by industry visits, hands-on exercises on engineering tools for design and analysis and orientation to methodologies such as value engineering, design for six sigma etc. The incumbents are exposed to practical problems during the program for better visualization and appreciation of design concepts. |

Avionics and Defense Electronics Summit – March, 2011
To reinforce its thought leadership, IES organized a workshop on “Avionics and Defense Electronics” at MSDC, Bangalore on March 11, 2011. This was a one-day event, organized jointly with Centre for Military Airworthiness Certification (CEMILAC) to bring the government and private players to a common platform to share their capabilities, requirements and technology challenges in the field of Avionics and Defense Electronics.
Keynote speech was delivered on ‘Defense Electronics Systems’ such as electronic warfare, C4I systems, radars, high power lasers and their applications in Indian Defense. Special lecture on ‘Avionics Technologies of Combat Aircraft’ during which the ana lysis of threat scenario, technology required to meet the requirements and challenges of avionics systems for modern combat aircraft were discussed.
During the summit, winners of the contest “Aerospace Young Engineer Awards 2010” were announced.

Aerostructures workshop – May, 2010
To reinforce the thought leadership position in Aerospace Practice, Mahindra Satyam IES has organized a one-day workshop on “Aerostructures” on 6 th May 2010 at Mahindra Satyam Development Center (MSDC), Bangalore, India. This event has brought together industry experts, academia and analysts from A&D industry and provided a platform to discuss and exchange Industry’s latest trends, technologies and challenges.
Keynote speech was delivered on ‘Aircraft Structural Technologies in India’. It was mentioned that composites and smart structures to be the next focus areas. Special lecture was given on ‘Certification Challenges of Aircraft Structures’. During this session, the speaker walked through the critical steps in structures evaluation during the certification. There was a presentation by the industry analyst on short and long-term opportunities in Indian and global A&D industry.
The industry experts, analysts and academicians who were invited for the workshop discussed and exchanged industry’s recent happenings. Some of the areas that figured in the discussions included: Importance of product industrialization and few challenges that are being faced currently, importance of industry-academia collaboration, critical areas for capability improvement.
Technical sessions were organized on Design, Analysis, Manufacture and Repair engineering, which are key phases in aircraft structures. Each session was presented in collaboration with external experts and demonstrated the technical capabilities that aerospace practice has in line with the latest trends and technologies.
During this workshop, Mahindra Satyam announced the launch of the “Mahindra Satyam Aerospace Young Engineer Awards”. The award seeks to recognize and encourage outstanding talent in budding engineering students across the country. It provides an opportunity to engineering students to nominate their work in aerospace related areas such as structures, flight controls and materials. It offers students a platform to showcase their talent and creates an opportunity for channeling their potential.

Value Engineering Workshop - April, 2008
In continuation of an ongoing practice of providing platforms for knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices through Engineering Conclave and Reliability Engineering Workshop in 2007, Mahindra Satyam – Integrated Engineering Solution (IES) with ARC advisory group as knowledge partner, organized the Value Engineering Workshop on 22-23 April 2008 at STC Hyderabad, India.
The workshop was designed to methodically cover various elements of value engineering chain like product cost, value addition, re-engineering, innovation etc., to take the audience through a phased learning process substantiated with relevant case studies that demonstrate knowledge and conviction what Mahindra Satyam IES has in the field of Value Engineering.
The concept of value engineering focuses on increasing value and/or reducing cost from a product/process. The technological advancements in terms of materials, instrumentation, manufacturing processes, and computer-based simulations are key things for Mahindra Satyam IES to focus on in a growing consumer requirement/demand scenario and the importance of optimization of design, process, labor and materials.
Emphasizing the need to be innovative in the competitive environment, guest of honor said “Accelerated time to market, differentiations, 2 x Value, innovative ways of enhanced functionality, and keeping pace with changing consumer behavior are key thought prompters”.
The workshop had a participation of customers and over 400 design engineers along with faculty.

Reliability Engineering Workshop - December, 2007
CII Andhra Pradesh organized a two-day Reliability Engineering Workshop with Mahindra Satyam IES as knowledge partner and Reliasoft India as technology partner on 14 th and 15 th December, 2007. Mahindra Satyam became the first company in the private sector to offer training in Reliability Engineering.
Senior Vice President, Integrated Engineering Solutions (IES), Mahindra Satyam while delivering the welcome address, said, “This is the first time that an Engineering Services Provider is looking at training personnel on Reliability Engineering for the industry. At Mahindra Satyam, we have built strong competency in Reliability Engineering and we see this as a progression of our knowledge and expertise. This is aimed at increasing the overall competency of the vertical in the industry over a period of time. We are looking to train at least 200 over the next few years.”
Over 300 engineers participated in the Workshop, from ISRO, ELICO, TVS Electronics, Hyderabad Industries Ltd, Bakelite Hylam Ltd, Mahindra Satyam etc.
Mahindra Satyam has entered into tie-ups with US & Indian Universities for certification programs in Reliability and IES associates who are taking up the sessions are Certified Reliability Practitioners and Experts. The training programs would benefit Design, Maintenance and Testing Engineers working with organizations involved in Product Design, Process Design and Plant Maintenance. It would aim at helping these practicing engineers adapt practices that make products—parts, components and system—more reliable, with less problems.  |

Engineering Conclave – July, 2007
Mahindra Satyam Integrated Engineering Solutions (IES) together with Mahindra Satyam Knowledge Management group organized Mahindra Satyam Engineering Conclave on 23 rd July, 2007. The event acted as the perfect platform to discuss Engineering Services Outsourcing. On this occasion, Mahindra Satyam IES unveiled i3 Innovation Framework. Many thought leaders and eminent personalities from the engineering industry and the analyst community were present to discuss on how Engineering has evolved over the years, the latest trends, innovation in the era of integrated global engineering and the future as they see in the 21 st century.
Prominent personalities from Booz-Allen-Hamilton, ARC, Unilever, EADS, HAL, and Agilent India were amongst us at the conclave to share their thoughts with respect to Engineering Services.
